Plenty of hot air for balloon battle pilots
BALLOONISTS will be taking to the skies over Cambridgeshire in a battle to win a place in the British team taking part in the world championships in Austria next year.
Up to 20 hot air balloons are expected to be involved in the contest at Lakeside Lodge in Pidley next weekend.
Pilots from all over Britain will demonstrate their skills and will have to carry out a range of tasks to show their ability to fly accurately.
Steve Bellaby, event director, said: "Pidley is a great venue for a hot air balloon competition. The conditions are normally challenging, testing pilots' ability to perform tasks well under pressure. Also the landowners are always so welcoming. It is a real joy to fly here."
Mr Bellaby added: "British hot air balloon pilots are definitely among the best in the world, they regularly win competitions abroad and boast former world and European champions."
Flying will take place at about 6.45am and 5.30pm on Saturday and 6.45am on Sunday.
