Low Flying

Must be a real low news weekend.

Low flying balloon
By Dick Bellringer

RESIDENTS in the Batchelors Barn Road area of Andover were stunned to see a
low flying, hot air balloon skimming over their back gardens on Bank Holiday
Monday.

The balloon, coming from the direction of Newbury, was losing altitude and
at one point brushed the trees around the playing fields and seemed as if it
was going to land on the cricket pitch.

But onlookers say it managed to gain enough height to pass over London Road
and Sheep Fair, landing in the field near Ladies Walk.

One resident said: "I was alerted by the cat.

"He was cowering down and looking quite frightened. At first I thought that
a fox had come into the garden, then I saw the balloon."

Several local people rushed to witness the spectacle. One person was so
eager they took their dinner with them!
